CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Certification through the Academy

The CERTIFIED FUNERAL SERVICE PRACTITIONER (CFSP) designation is funeral service's national individual recognition in the United States and Canada.  The goals of the Academy are:

• To recognize those practitioners who have voluntarily entered into a program of personal and professional growth,
• To raise and improve the standards of funeral service, and
• To encourage practitioners to make continuing education a life-long process in their own self-interest, the interest of families they serve, and the community in which they serve.

Certification Process

Funeral Professionals can earn credits toward certification in four categories:  Academic, Professional Service, Career Review and Public Education and Service.  Retroactive credits can also be earned for activities performed from the date of licensure to the date of Academy membership after completing your Career Review.

Once you have achieved 180 hours (18.0 CEUs) of activities in our four categories you are eligible for your CFSP distinction.  You remain active with your designation once it is earned, by paying the annual renewal fee and the completion of 20 hours (2.0 CEUs) annually.

ACADEMIC: Up to 10.8 CEUs toward initial certification in this category

• college level courses
• presentations, professional speeches and lectures
• single-theme programs up to 3 hours

PROFESSIONAL: Up to 7.2 CEUs toward initial certification in this category

• attending any funeral service-organization meeting
• attending workshop or seminar
• serving on committees or boards of funeral service organizations

CAREER REVIEW: Up to 5.4 CEUs toward initial certification in this category

PUBLIC EDUCATION/SERVICE: Up to 1.8 CEUs toward initial certification in this category

• participating in civic or church organizations, including committees served and offices held
• preparing and making presentations of up to 2 hours to community groups
• conduction funeral home tours for hospice, civic or school groups and community remembrance services

Initial Membership: $85 USD          FSAC Member Rate: $65 CDN

Renewal Fee: $55 USD                  FSAC Renewal Rate: $55 CDN
